E books
Hello, my name is Dr. Griggs. I've been an outpatient psychologist for over two decades. People come to my office to work on problems. I work with individuals of all ages, couples of all persuasions and a wide variety of concerns. There are eight areas that keep coming up, no matter what the person's age, occupation, race, economic status or religious affilation. One or more of these eight areas is connected to just about everything and everyone in one way or another. Here are the eight categories of problems I see over and over:
Addictions (Alcohol, Drugs, Sex, Gambling)
ADHD/Learning Disabilities
Anxiety Disorders (Phobias, Panic, OCD, PTSD)
Self-Esteem
Children's Behaviors (Teenagers, ODD, discipline, acting out)
Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar)
Relationships (Couples, Parent/Child, Divorce)
Assertiveness, Anger Management)
A number of clients suggested I write ebooks to explore and explain problems in these eight areas. But, people wanted quick answers. I heard complaints that reading "store-bought" self-help books took too much time to read. They were too long. People wanted quick, concise, to-the-point, no-fat publications that went to the heart of each subject. Clients wanted "How To" manuals they could read independently of therapy, but at the same time they wanted something that made therapy go faster, too. I listened.
This was quite a challenge. On the one hand, the directive was to write about subjects that are fairly complex, yet at the same time make each ebook short enough to not bog down the reader. It had to be pithy (full of substance). It had to have depth, live up to professional standards and function as a stand alone manuscript; meaning, one could read it without going to therapy and still benefit. Each had to be comprehensive yet be written in ordinary language. The material had to be compatible with not just what I do in therapy, but with standard therapeutic techniques that most therapists know and use.
So, this was my mandate and exactly what I set out to do. So far, I've written twelve ebooks, as I call them, with an thirteenth on the way--Forgiveness. The most recent two, Procrastination (A Form of Ambivalence) and Guilt (Ambivalence Turned Inwards) are now available (scroll down and click on the titles). The ebooks are between 25 and 50 pages in length. The FREE one is a little shorter, but each goes to the heart of a single subject, boiling it down to the essentials as I see them. (I want them to be quick and easy.) I've culled my information from reading most of the works in each of the areas, but more importantly from my over twenty-seven years of being a psychologist. I've figured out what the essence of each issue is and how to approach it most effectively and efficiently. The idea is to put a lot of powerful information into the reader's hands--right away. I'm trying to maximize the reader's ability to diagnose and/or make changes without going to a therapist first. Everything in my ebooks works, and works very well--surprisingly well.
If therapy is indicated, my ebooks tell you why and exactly when to seek professional help. By the time the reader finishes each book, they will have more than enough knowledge to find a competent therapist and probably will know more about the subject than the therapist.. But the point is to arm people with more than enough information and techniques that going to a therapist may not be necessary.
So far, I've completed two in Spanish. In the near future, I plan on translating most or all of my ebooks into Spanish. So far, here's what's available:
Los Cinco Pasos de la Asertividad (+)
Por que las Relaciones Fallan
Click on any of the titles to be taken to a separate page on this website. There you will find an in-depth description of the content of each ebook, and information about how to download it.
In the future, I plan to write a plethora of succinct ebooks on a variety of subjects. Click on "Future Subjects" (on the Navigation bar to the left) to be taken to that page.
